Orientation
As a child and adolescent psychologist, Dr. Jensen sees people with a wide range of concerns. In all cases, a child, adolescent, or young adult is the identified client. Her approach is cognitive-behavioral which means that she looks at patterns of thoughts, feelings, expectations, and behavior as well as life events as they relate to problems with functioning. Therapy is focused on the problems of today, although patterns learned over time will be talked about as well. Generally, the first one to three sessions are used to learn more about you and/or your child’s presenting problem(s). This assessment includes talking to you and/or your child and, with your permission, may include talking to other relevant persons (e.g., family members, school personnel). When necessary, the assessment may also involve the administration of psychological tests. After the assessment process, Dr. Jensen may refer you to another therapist if, in her judgment, her expertise does not match your needs. If Dr. Jensen believes she can be of help to you, after the assessment process together you will discuss a plan for treatment. Therapy will continue until goals are met, or until you decide that you wish to discontinue.
